classes prepare the student to work in the field as an EMT. The course meets or exceeds current MDPH/OEMS curriculum requirements
and provides the student with the education needed to qualify for the
Massachusetts Emergency Medical Technician-Basic Examination
Course
content includes:
anatomy
and physiology,
patient
assessment,
airway management (including use of the OPA/NPA, BVM, BVM with ET, etc.),
resuscitation
(including use of the semi-automatic external defibrillator/SAED),
management
of medical emergencies (respiratory, cardiac, OB/GYN including emergency
childbirth, endocrine emergencies, common disease/medical conditions, etc.),
management
of trauma-related emergencies (fractures, injuries to the head/neck/spine,
spinal immobilization, injuries to the chest/abdomen/genitalia, bleeding,
soft tissue injuries, and shock, etc.),
management of psychological emergencies,
interaction with paramedics during patient care,
outdoor
auto extrication lab,
hazardous
materials incident management,
documentation requirements and legal issues,
sixteen
(16) hours ambulance observation time.
