Initial Basic EMT Education Programs
EMTs treat patients in all kinds of places – in living rooms, bedrooms, cars, offices, board rooms, around pools, in back yards, in front yards, garages, on sidewalks, in bathrooms – you name the place, EMTs have treated patients there.
But what do you need to know in order to do your job well, Mr./Ms. EMT? You need to know how and be able to:
- anatomy and physiology, medical terminology
- assess your patients and their blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rates
- airway management (including management of anaphylaxis)
- recognize cardiac arrest, do CPR, and use an AED
- management of medical emergencies (respiratory, cardiac, OB/GYN including emergency childbirth, endocrine emergencies, common disease/medical conditions, etc.)
- management of trauma-related emergencies (fractures, injuries of the head/ neck/spine, spinal immobilization, injuries to the chest/abdomen/genitalia, bleeding, soft tissue injuries, and shock, etc.)
- management of psychological emergencies
- recognize and manage narcotic overdose
- support a woman who is laboring to deliver her baby
- work with paramedics as part of the patient care team
- lifting and moving of patients (taught by a physical therapist)
- implement and use the Incident Command System
- outdoor auto extrication lab
- documentation requirements and legal issues
- hazardous materials incident management
- deal with whatever else comes up!
Basic EMT Course - Full Tuition
Basic EMT Course meet/exceed all Massachusetts requirements for Basic EMT programs. Classes are scheduled as follows:
- 14 February and ends 24 May 2012 (EVES - T/Th)
- 14 February - 2 May 2012 (DAYS - T/Th)
- 29 May - 16 August 2012 (EVES - M/T/Th)
- 4 September - 20 December 2012 (EVES - T/Th)
All classes include at least one Saturday each month class is in session! When you complete the registration form here, please note which program date you wish to attend.
Content includes cardiology, respiratory emergencies, pharmacology, neurology, behavioral and psychiatric emergencies, fracture management, spinal cord injury management, hazardous materials awareness, emergency childbirth, and a whole lot more! CPR program is included.

The first installment is due the first of the 2nd month of class (October). Don't worry - we'll remind you in class about the payment. Included in the payment is a $25.00 service fee.- $

Basic Exam Prep Course - March 2012
Classes begin 26 March 2012 and continue through the week of the course EMT Certification exam. Sessions meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The course is taught by a Massachusetts Basic EMT Skills Examiner.- $
